a little drums, a little love

Got home last night. Planned on having a little dinner, walking the dog and relaxing; maybe study some more French and do some laundry. No, of course not. Creativity bites us in the face and forbids us to do anything until work gets done.

So, alas. I began listening, mixing, adding, writing and all that fun stuff to "il combat fatigué". Good ol' Chris R. of course told me not to touch it, and that immediately means do more to it. Haha, honestly, I had known for a while that I had wanted to add these other little tid bits to this track. So here's a little posting of it. I'm keeping the old one up for now just for A/B purposing, but I think the differences are noticeable.

il combat fatigué 0915

Quick lyric change as well (but not reflected in this version). In the bridge the letters are now:

Where life folds like a game
Time takes Place
Up, Down, Checkmate
Despite their failures
The gates remain (for another king)

More new tracks to come. All scratch of course. And to all my music friends, keep doing what you do. Send me tracks, send me ideas. Playing solo gets REAL old after awhile. I miss people telling me my music sucks, change it, flip the bridge and chorus, put your foot in it, etc. Enough, see everyone soon.

a bientôt,
chris.

roughin' it

2 songs.  1 night.  1.5 hours.  A raspy dead voice.

That's how I spent my evening.  But this is what came of it:

il combat fatigué

simple progression

Finally, some ideas down on tape.  Or hard drive.  They would sound better on tape though.  Running 15ips.  Sexy.  OK, the techy nerd in me just got excited.  Must go.

au revoir,

chris.

A late successful night

About a week and a half I got stuck at work quite late. Boo hoo, right? I work in a studio so I had a booth and guitars at my disposal in every room I walked into. So while the computer was backing up and doing all the tedious routine stuff that it constantly has to be doing, I sat down in the booth with an acoustic and a U87 and rocked out a few new tunes (as well as some old ones, to keep it fresh). From the previous post, SONG #1 has been redubbed "il combat fatigué". I've made it about 70% through the song and have yet to figure out the back half. The lyrics are as is so far:

If you're tired of fighting
And you want to let go
It's OK

If you're tired of fighting
And you want to let go
Come around this corner
And I'll show you the way home
Cause I've been lost
So many times before
And I came to save you
Cause that's what I think friends are for

Cause I
haven't felt alive
for the last five
years until tonight
So go do what you do
And just bring me the rebate
Where life folds like a game
Time takes Place

She said:
I'll always love you
I'll always love you
And you won't love me back
So you should go now

Next, I dropped down to another song in this alternate tuning rant (SONG#2) I've been on (DADF#Bd) and played back-and-forth with a simple note progression adding a few words that just came to me a few weeks prior. I'm really happy with this one, but again I am stuck after the main riff and verses. No hook yet and no ideas...they'll come:

When I came alive
My mind followed green sights
of earth and mineral mines
My dreams these days
are littered profusely
clattered by something
amazing

My father gave me
a heart of gold
my mother bared me
through a pattern of release and hold
and my future children drop their eyes
hiding smiles of guilt and mischevious times
my love runs endless
and speechless my love

Finally, I also recorded a quick scratch version of "Escaping, Escapee", "In & Out", "Searsmont, Gone Away" and probably some random jammage with some yodelling sampled in via a talkbox. That last one would be awesome, but assuredly I am not that clever with my music. My last venture of the evening was a much more up-tempo and gritty tune that I've been hacking away at called "je voudrais se développer". Here's what I've got so far. It's much more of a Tom Waits sort of dirty tune with a lot of loose playing, yet set in a very firm rhythm section. A couple people come to mind when thinking of who to get to play for me on this song. I'll finish developing the idea and hope for a good response:

So I'm gonna tell you a story / About how mom and dad were bored one day
And left me by the crackhouse in the den

I was 9 1/2 and growing / But no one else was knowing
That I stuck those little rocks inside my head

And so policeman, I'm just sorry / I wish I could tell you a different story
But the crack just happened to find its own way in

I was 9
And a half
Doing harder drugs than my own dad
He was 41
He was retired and a bigger fan of guns
Than me

my father left me home alone
and now i'm gonna burn his home
Summer's come and taken all our hearts

I'm 21 and trying / Ha! No one's trying, their just lying
So let's just get the hell out and go do what we want

Bite I'll bite back harder / And when it comes I'll disappear with her
Alone together the past is on our back

tout le meilleur,
chris.
